Brooke O’Neill experienced postpartum psychosis just days after the birth of her first child. She was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and prescribed Lithium to treat the symptoms. O’Neill talks about 13 years of chasing the high, or manic symptoms, which ended in a suicide attempt. At this crisis point, she entered respite care and peer support which began her journey to more stability in life and to her career as a nurse in the centre she was treated in. Her book, Spiders, vampires and jail keys - a story of depression, mania and losing my mind, is O’Neill’s account of the highs and lows of living with Bipolar. She shares with host Hamish Coleman-Ross and psychotherapist Kyle MacDonald, thanks to NZ on Air.
