From season 4 of The Nutters Club comes this episode featuring one of New Zealand’s most famous sons, Martin Crowe. Captain of the New Zealand cricket team during one of it’s most successful periods, his record of almost 20 thousands runs in first class cricket is a monument to his astonishing ability and grit.
But away from the public eye, Martin’s private inner battles were destroying his mental wellbeing.
Now in retirement from the sport, a shock diagnosis of cancer has created a new challenge, and has given Martin an opportunity to rebalance his view of life and find new peace in a time of trial. Martin talks to Mike King and Dr David Codyre about his book Raw.
Raw is a unique book. It details, often with brutal candour, Martin's personal battles since his retirement as a player – depression, launching Cricket Max, the joys of fatherhood, the pleasure and problems he had working for Sky TV, marriage to a former Miss Universe, and, most shockingly, discovery that he was suffering from cancer.
